The French Girl Skirt Edit: Sézane Alicia, Tabata & Tan Reviewed
Wondering which Sézane skirt to buy?
If there’s one thing Sézane does exceptionally well, it’s skirts - that perfect balance between romantic, wearable, and so quintessentially French. Over the years I’ve collected a few, and today I’m sharing my thoughts on three of my favorites: the Alicia, the Tabata, and the Tan skirts. Each one feels different in mood and fit - from the daringly feminine Alicia to the structured classic Tabata, to the effortlessly flattering Tan.
Whether you’re new to Sézane or trying to decide which skirt deserves a spot in your cart, here’s an honest look at how they each fit, feel, and style. I have three Tabata skirts, so clearly I keep coming back for more. It’s a high-waisted midi with a zip closure, modest side slit, and a sleek viscose material that gives it a beautiful drape. The silhouette is slightly slimmer through the hips, so while a size 10 works fine for me, it’s definitely more fitted — something to keep in mind if you’re between sizes.
I love dressing my Tabata skirts up for date nights or work events. They pair perfectly with a low heel and a tucked-in blouse for something feminine and polished, but they’re just as good with a cropped sweater or simple tee. It’s one of those silhouettes that quietly pulls everything together — easy to reach for, hard to overthink.
Verdict: timeless, subtly tailored, and endlessly versatile.
Most Sézane skirts have a zip closure, but this was my first Tan skirt - and I was delighted to see the elasticated back. This one is from the October 2025 collection, and I just couldn’t resist the colorway - warm, soft autumn shades that basically make up my entire palette.
I ordered a size 10 (for reference, I’m about a 32–33” waist), and it’s a perfect fit. The length is shorter than most of my other Sézane skirts, which makes it especially good for pairing with tall boots or loafers. The fabric has that slightly structured feel that still moves beautifully, and it gives the whole look a modern, flattering shape.
Honestly, this might be my favorite skirt yet - the perfect mix of ease, comfort, and Sézane charm.
Verdict: structured yet easy, beautifully colored, and quietly show-stopping.
The Alicia skirt is for days when you want to feel bold — or at least like the main character. The slit on this one is dangerous, but that’s exactly what makes it so fun to wear. (Okay, maybe keep a pair of bike shorts on standby — just in case.)
It’s a high-waisted midi with pleats and a side-zip closure, and the slit runs dramatically up to the waistband, almost overlapping like a wrap skirt. This version is lined, though that may vary depending on the fabric’s thickness. I took a size 10, and it fits just right — not too snug, not too loose.
This may not be the skirt you grab in the dead of winter, but it’s incredibly versatile for the rest of the year. I love it with a white tee and sandals for summer, or layered with a mock-neck top and sweater once the weather cools down.
Verdict: feminine, flirty, and unforgettable — a skirt that turns heads without trying.
Final Thoughts: Which Sézane Skirt Is Right for You?
Each of these skirts offers a slightly different take on Sézane’s signature silhouette. Here’s how I’d sum them up side by side:
If you love romance and movement — go for Alicia.
If you want something classic and refined — Tabata will never let you down.
And if comfort and wearability win the day — the Tan is the one.
And maybe… you could buy all three just so you’re prepared for any occasion.
